Section 353 of the Companies Act, 2013 — Appointment of Official Liquidator

Before Omission – Key Provision (Historical Reference)
Earlier, Section 353 dealt with the appointment of an Official Liquidator by the Central Government for the purpose of winding up of companies by the Tribunal.
The Central Government could appoint one or more Official Liquidators, who were to be attached to the Tribunal.
These Official Liquidators were responsible for conducting the proceedings and affairs of the company being wound up under the supervision of the Tribunal.
Current Status
After the enforcement of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, the provisions relating to company liquidation were transferred to the IBC.
Liquidators and resolution professionals are now appointed as per the IBC framework and under the supervision of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
