It emphasizes equitable distribution of AI benefits, ethical deployment, and the establishment of a governance framework, including a National AI Council. Key sectors targeted include agriculture, healthcare, mining, education, finance, and public services.
🧠 Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations
The Zambian government has partnered with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to develop the AI strategy, benefiting from the institute's expertise in providing strategic advice to governments worldwide. Additionally, Zambia is collaborating with the European Union to craft a Startup Bill, aiming to create an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
⚖️ Legal and Regulatory Developments
Recognizing the importance of a robust legal foundation for AI deployment, the government is actively revising the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act. This update is crucial in creating a secure environment for AI implementation while addressing potential risks and challenges.
📈 Implementation and Future Outlook
The National AI Strategy aims to position Zambia as a leader in AI for development across key sectors. It emphasizes equitable distribution of AI benefits, ethical deployment, and the establishment of a governance framework, including a National AI Council. The strategy also focuses on building human capital, enhancing digital infrastructure, and fostering collaboration between local and international entities to create a vibrant AI ecosystem.
