Zambia’s National AI Strategy (2024–2026)
In November 2024, Zambia launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, positioning itself as a regional leader in AI for development. The strategy focuses on leveraging AI to accelerate economic growth, enhance public services, and improve the quality of life for all Zambians. It emphasizes equitable distribution of AI benefits, ethical deployment, and the establishment of a governance framework, including a National AI Council. The Zambian government has partnered with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to develop the AI strategy, benefiting from the institute's expertise in providing strategic advice to governments worldwide. Additionally, Zambia is collaborating with the European Union to craft a Startup Bill, aiming to create an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
