Syllabus: Maharashtra Judicial Service Exam Civil Judge
The Maharashtra Judicial Service Examination for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate (First Class) is a three-stage process: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and an Interview (Viva-Voce).
Preliminary Examination
The preliminary exam is an objective-type test with 100 multiple-choice questions for a total of 100 marks. The questions are based on the following subjects:

The Specific Relief Act
The Maharashtra Rent Control Act

Main Examination
The main examination is a descriptive, written test consisting of two papers, each for 100 marks. The medium of the examination can be English or Marathi.

An essay on a current legal topic (approximately 800 words)
Interview (Viva-Voce)
Candidates who qualify for the main examination are called for an interview. The interview assesses a candidate's character, personality, general knowledge, legal knowledge, and suitability for the post of a judge. A good knowledge of the Marathi language (reading, writing, and speaking) and the ability to translate from English to Marathi and vice-versa is also required.
