Andorra's judiciary is structured to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice within the principality.

Judicial Structure:

Batllia (Court of First Instance):

  • Handles minor offenses, criminal cases, and civil and administrative disputes.

Tribunal de Corts (Court of Courts):

  • Deals with major crimes and hears appeals from the Batllia.

Supreme Court of Andorra:

  • Comprises a president and eight magistrates appointed by the Superior Council of Justice.
  • Has jurisdiction over civil, administrative, and criminal matters.

Superior Council of Justice (Consell Superior de la Justícia):

  • Ensures the independence and proper functioning of the judiciary.
  • Responsible for appointing judges and magistrates, overseeing disciplinary actions, and managing judicial resources.

Recent Legal Developments:

Constitutional Challenges: Political entities, such as Andorra Endavant, are seeking support to bring certain laws before the Constitutional Court, citing potential constitutional issues.

High-Profile Cases: In September 2024, former FC Andorra coach Eder Sarabia initiated legal proceedings against the club, claiming over €700,000 for wrongful dismissal. The case is being heard by the Batllia.

These developments highlight the dynamic nature of Andorra's legal system and its ongoing efforts to address legal challenges within its jurisdiction.
