Section 3 the Probation of offenders act, 1958

Here is the summary of Section 3 of the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958:

Section 3 - Power of Court to release certain offenders after due admonition

Summary:

When a person is found guilty of an offense punishable with imprisonment of up to two years, or with fine, or with both, the court may, instead of sentencing them to punishment, release them on probation of good conduct.

The court may require the offender to enter into a bond, with or without sureties, to keep the peace and be of good behavior for a period not exceeding three years.

The court must admonish the offender before releasing them, explaining the consequences of breach of the bond.

This section aims to give an opportunity for reform and avoid imprisonment for minor offenses.
