Section 393 IPC – Punishment for dacoity

Section 393 deals with dacoity, which is a robbery committed by five or more people acting together.
In simpler terms, when a group of five or more persons forcibly take property from someone, it is called dacoity, and Section 393 prescribes the punishment.

Whoever commits dacoity shall be punished with:
Imprisonment: Not less than 3 years, which may extend to life imprisonment, and
Fine, depending on the severity of the offence.
Life imprisonment is generally for serious dacoities causing grave harm or danger.
