IPC Section 212

IPC Section 212 covers:

"Harboring or concealing offender"

Text of the Section:

Whoever, knowing or having reason to believe that any person has committed an offence,
harbors or conceals that person, or causes that person to escape from legal custody,
shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Explanation:

If someone knowingly hides or protects a person who has committed a crime,

Or helps that person to escape from police or jail,

Then that helper can be punished under this section.

Punishment:

Imprisonment up to 3 years,

And a fine.

Example:

If a person hides a thief or a fugitive in their home, or helps them escape from custody, they can be charged under Section 212.
