⚖️ Legal System Overview

Grenada operates under a civil law system influenced by English common law traditions. The Legal Profession Act serves as the primary legislation regulating the legal profession, encompassing the roles of attorneys-at-law, notaries, and other legal practitioners.

🧑‍⚖️ Admission to Practice Law

To practice law in Grenada:

Educational Requirements:Obtain a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited institution

Legal Education Certificate:Complete the Legal Education Certificate (LEC) program at the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Law in Barbados or another approved institution

Enrolment:Apply for enrolment with the General Legal Council, the regulatory body overseeing the legal profession in Grenada

Admission:Upon successful enrolment, candidates are admitted to practice law and are entered into the Roll of Attorneys-at-Law maintained by the Registrar of the Supreme Court

📄 Practicing Certificate

Under Section 24 of the Legal Profession Act, individuals must hold a valid Practicing Certificate to practice law in Grenad. The certificate is issued annually by the General Legal Council and require:

Application Submission of an application to the Counci.

Fee Payment Payment of the prescribed fee, which ranges from *EC$250 to EC$750.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Completion of 12 CPD credits per year, with each credit equivalent to one hour of attendance at an accredited legal education even.

The Legal Profession Code of Ethics, established under the Legal Profession Act, outlines the professional conduct and ethical standards expected of attorneys-at-law in Grenaa This includes duties to clients, the court, and the public, ensuring integrity and accountability within the legal professin.

🏛️ Regulatory Boy

The General Legal Council is the statutory body responsible for regulating the legal profession in Grend. It oversees the admission process, maintains the Roll of Attorneys-at-Law, and ensures compliance with the Legal Profession Act and the Code of Ethcs.
