Environmental laws at Tajikistan

Tajikistan has developed a comprehensive legal framework to ensure the protection and sustainable management of its environment. Key components of this framework include:

Environmental Protection Law:

Legal Basis: The Law of the Republic of Tajikistan on Environmental Protection establishes the foundation for the state's policy in environmental protection, aiming to ensure sustainable socio-economic development and a favorable environment for citizens.

State Policy: This law outlines the state's commitment to protecting human life and health, restoring and rationally using natural resources, and promoting sustainable development.

Principles of Environmental Protection: The law emphasizes principles such as the supremacy of the constitution, priority of human health, rational use of natural resources, and the polluter pays principle.

Institutional Framework:

Committee for Environmental Protection: This central executive body is responsible for implementing state policy in environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, and exercising state control over environmental protection and natural resource use.

Development of Environmental Code:

Environmental Code: Efforts are underway to develop an Environmental Code to create a unified legal structure dedicated to safeguarding and conserving the natural environment, facilitating sustainable development, and enhancing public awareness and involvement in environmental matters.

International Commitments:

Climate Change Strategy: Tajikistan has updated its National Development Strategy with a Vision for Climate Change to address issues such as carbon emissions and environmental threats, including air quality and glacier preservation. The country is committed to low-carbon-emission power production, transitioning to electric vehicles, and adopting efficient, low-energy technologies.

These legislative and institutional measures underscore Tajikistan's commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, aiming to balance economic growth with the preservation of its natural heritage.
