🏛️ Legal Framework for Gender Equality

Constitutional Protections:The Constitution of Belize guarantees equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on sex. However, it allows for exceptions in matters related to adoption, marriage, divorce, burial, and inheritance, which may be governed by personal law

Married Women's Property Act:This act grants married women the same legal capacity as unmarried women to own and manage property, enter into contracts, and engage in legal proceedings 

Administration of Estates Act:Ensures equal inheritance rights for sons and daughters, and for surviving spouses, regardless of gender

*Families and Children Act: Establishes the legal framework for child custody, guardianship, and adoption. It emphasizes the child's welfare as the paramount consideration in custody decisions
