ARTICLE XVIII — STATE SEAL
Section 1 – Seal to be Preserved
“The seal now in use by the Territory of Washington is hereby declared to be and shall be the seal of the State of Washington.”
Summary:
The territorial seal that existed before Washington became a state (in 1889) was officially adopted as the state seal.
This article is only one section long and simply affirms continuity from territorial to state government in terms of symbolism.
The seal depicts George Washington and is inscribed with:
"The Seal of the State of Washington, 1889."
