Section 24 of Hindu Marriage Act
Text of Section 24:
If either the husband or the wife has, without reasonable excuse, withdrawn from the society of the other, the aggrieved party may apply to the district court for a decree for restitution of conjugal rights. If the court is satisfied that such withdrawal without reasonable cause has taken place, it may pass a decree directing the party who has withdrawn to live with the other party.
Explanation:
Purpose: To compel a spouse who has left the other without any valid reason to return and live together.
Who can apply: Either husband or wife.
What happens: If the court finds that the withdrawal is without reasonable cause, it can order the withdrawing spouse to resume cohabitation.
Note: This section is meant to preserve the marital relationship by restoring conjugal life.
