Article XXVI of the Oklahoma Constitution establishes the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission, responsible for managing, protecting, and conserving the state’s wildlife resources.

🔹 Section 1: Creation of the Department and Commission

Creates the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Establishes the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission, which governs the Department.

🔹 Section 2: Composition of the Commission

The Commission has eight members:

Appointed by the Governor

Confirmed by the State Senate

One member from each Congressional District, and one at-large member

Members serve 8-year staggered terms.

🔹 Section 3: Powers and Duties

The Commission has full authority over:

Wildlife management

Game and fish regulations

Setting hunting and fishing seasons

Issuing licenses and permits

Acquiring and maintaining wildlife habitats

The Department enforces state wildlife laws and policies created by the Commission.

Funded by:

License fees, permits, and fines

Federal funds related to wildlife

Other sources as authorized

All revenues from licenses and related activities are dedicated solely to wildlife conservation and cannot be diverted to other state uses.

The Commission may adopt rules and regulations consistent with state law to carry out its wildlife conservation duties.
