1. Patient Registration Requirements

Rule:
Before obtaining medical marijuana, patients must:

Have a physician’s recommendation for a qualifying condition.

Be registered with the Ohio medical marijuana program.

Consent to treatment.

Submit required personal information and fees.

Case A: Maria, 45, has severe fibromyalgia. Her doctor recommends medical marijuana, submits her registration, and she is approved. She can now legally obtain it.

2. Purchase and Possession Limits

Rule:

Patients may purchase only from licensed dispensaries.

Patients must present their registry card and ID.

Case E: John purchases a 45-day supply in the first period and another 45-day supply in the second period.

Case F: Sarah tries to buy more than 45 days at once. The dispensary refuses until the next period.

Case G: Michael forgets his registry card at the dispensary. He cannot make a purchase without it.

3. Storage, Possession, and Use

Rule:

Store marijuana securely to prevent access by unauthorized persons, especially children.

Carry your registry card when in possession.

Cannot use on federal property or in prohibited areas.

Cannot operate a vehicle while impaired.

Case H: Tom keeps his supply in a locked cabinet and carries his card when transporting it.

Case I: Emma leaves her marijuana unlocked where a neighbor’s child could reach it. She violates the secure storage rule.

Case J: David drives immediately after using medical marijuana, which violates the prohibition against impaired driving.

4. Caregivers

Rule:

Caregivers must be registered before legally assisting a patient.

They can pick up and administer marijuana only for their registered patient(s).

Caregiver registration must be renewed annually.

Case K: Leticia, registered as her father’s caregiver, picks up his supply legally at a dispensary.

Case L: A neighbor tries to pick up marijuana for a patient without registration. The dispensary must refuse.

5. Prohibited Actions and Discipline

Rule:

Patients/caregivers risk suspension or revocation for:

Home cultivation without authorization.

Selling or giving marijuana to others.

Misusing the registry card.

Misrepresenting facts to the Board or dispensary.

Case M: Kevin lets a friend use his registry card. He risks suspension.

Case N: Lisa grows marijuana at home without authorization. She violates the code.
