πΉ Section 257 β Officers to take oath of office
This section of the Mississippi Constitution states that:
All state and county officers, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, must take and subscribe to an oath (or affirmation) to support:
The Constitution of the United States
The Constitution of the State of Mississippi
They must also faithfully discharge the duties of their office.
β Purpose and Significance:
Reinforces constitutional loyalty and rule of law.
Applies to elected and appointed officials at both the state and county levels.
Ensures a legal and ethical obligation to uphold both federal and state constitutions.
