Dr. Mukwege has been instrumental in advocating for the integration of medical and legal systems to ensure justice for survivorsīīHis efforts have been pivotal in establishing protocols for documenting and preserving forensic evidence in SGBV cases.
MediCapt Mobile Application Developed by Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), MediCapt is a mobile application designed to collect and securely store forensic medical evidence of SGBV, Launched at HEAL Africa Hospital in Goma in December 2021, it enables medical professionals to document injuries and share evidence with legal authorities, facilitating the prosecution of perpetrators.
Forensic Center at the State University of Bukavu, Established in 2020, this centre aims to strengthen forensic science practices in the DRC, Despite challenges such as limited equipment, it has provided expertise in several justice cases, particularly those involving deceased individuals, and is recognized as a referral centre for forensic science in the region.
