Arkansas Advisory Commission for Registration of Landscape Architects

I. Purpose and Scope

Establishes rules for licensing and regulating the practice of landscape architects in Arkansas.

Implements the Arkansas Landscape Architectural Practice Act.

II. Definitions

Landscape Architect: A person licensed to practice landscape architecture.

Applicant: Someone applying for licensure.

L.A.R.E.: Landscape Architect Registration Examination.

CLARB: Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards.

CEU: Continuing Education Unit.

Emeritus Landscape Architect: Retired licensed architect, 65 or older, may use title but cannot practice.

III. Organization of the Board

Office is located in Little Rock, Arkansas.

VII. Licensing

A. General Licensing

Licensure is governed by the practice act and administrative rules.

Applicants must maintain current contact information with the Board.

B. Application Requirements

Must pass the L.A.R.E. exam.

Hold a degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program.

Demonstrate good moral character.

Provide evidence of experience if requested.

Pay applicable fees (application, renewal, examination, emeritus status).

C. Licensing Procedures

Board issues a license number upon meeting requirements.

Licenses expire annually and must be renewed.

Applicants from other states may qualify via reciprocity if standards are equivalent.

VIII. Landscape Architect’s Seal

Licensed architects must have a seal showing their name, license number, and “Licensed Landscape Architect – Arkansas.”

Seals are applied only to work prepared by the licensee or under direct supervision.

IX. Continuing Education

Continuing education is required for license renewal.

Minimum CEUs must be reported; exemptions apply for first-time licensees, emeritus status, or hardship.

Board approves CEU sponsors and providers.
