Section 142 – Division of state into circuits; residency requirements for circuit judges
The state shall be divided into convenient circuits. For each circuit, there shall be elected one or more judges of the circuit court for a term of six years, and the number of judges may be increased by law as the public interest may require. No person shall be eligible to the office of circuit judge unless he or she is licensed to practice law in this state and has been a resident citizen of this state for at least five years and is at least 25 years of age. Each judge of the circuit court shall reside in the circuit for which he or she is elected and shall have been licensed by the Alabama State Bar Association for at least three years.
