Washington Constitution Article XXV - Jurisdiction
Washington Constitution – Article XXV: Jurisdiction
Full Text:
ARTICLE XXV — JURISDICTION
Jurisdiction is hereby ceded to the United States, over the territory now occupied by the United States arsenal at Vancouver, subject to the right of the state to serve civil or criminal process therein.
Summary:
Article XXV of the Washington Constitution grants jurisdiction to the United States over the land occupied by the U.S. arsenal in Vancouver, Washington. However, the state of Washington retains the right to enforce its own civil and criminal laws (i.e., serve process) within that area.
This is a common type of provision in state constitutions for federal installations or military facilities, ensuring federal control while preserving certain legal rights for the state.
